Main purpose of the position
The role of the Postdoctoral Fellow will be to ensure smooth continuation of the already established IPM research on insect pests of cereals, food legumes and cactus.
Main responsibilities
- Continue successfully implementing the already established IPM research on insect pests of cereals, food legumes and cactus;
- Ensure the continuation of integration of entomology research into the different breeding programs and other IPM research activities at the Center.
- Continue and strengthen relationship with a range of local, regional and international partners and collaborators;
- Contribute to training and capacity building of students, trainees, visiting scientists and partners from the national research systems (NARS);
- Write project proposals for funding;
- Develop ISI publications as well as scientific reports;
- Supervise daily laborers working in the field and in the laboratory;
Requirements
Education, qualifications and experience
- PhD in Entomology;
- One to two years of relevant post-doc experience;
- At least 5 years’ experience in pulse and cereal insect resistance screening and measurements;
- Knowledge and management of experimental designs and statistical data analysis relevant to entomology;
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; knowledge of Arabic and/or French desirable;
- Record of scientific publications;
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment as well as independently with minimal supervision.

This is an internationally recruited position for which ICARDA offers an attractive compensation package including a competitive salary, housing and furniture allowance, medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, five months’ maternity leave, 15 days’ paternity leave. The successful candidate will be offered a fixed term contract of 12 months, renewable subject to continued need for the position, availability of funds and satisfactory performance.
