Purpose of the position
The research technician will assist the biotechnology team with necessary activities for the smooth implementation of experiments, training activities and data collection.
Main responsibilities
- Assist in conducting laboratory, greenhouse and field experiments, preparing field and field plans, field books, sowing, crossing, harvesting, and participatory research with farmers.
- Supervise casual workers both in the laboratory and the field.
- Assist in collection of data as requested by senior scientists and maintain updated database.
- Keep track of equipment, research supplies and services and request for purchase or repair as and when needed.
- Assist in training activities.
- Perform any other related task assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
Essential qualifications and competencies
- Diploma in agriculture or related field.
- 1-3 years of laboratory, green house and field experience is preferable.
- Working knowledge of English language.
- Proficiency in Arabic and/or French language.
- Basis knowledge in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience working in multicultural environment.
- BSc in agriculture, biotechnology or related field

Benefits
This is a nationally recruited position for which ICARDA offers an attractive compensation package including a competitive salary, medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, five months’ maternity leave, 15 days’ paternity leave. The successful candidate will be offered an initial contract of 1 year, renewable subject to continued need for the position and satisfactory performance. The first 6 months will be probationary period.
